NEW EXHIBITION:

Quiet Conversations

by Jan Allan

Wed 31st May - Sun 25th June
Opening Sat 3rd June 4 - 6pm

For me, painting is the ultimate problem-solving activity. To make a balanced harmonious composition, to choose harmonious colours; to use the most effective brush strokes and to know when to stop.

My objective is to convey a feeling of quiet and peace. Each painting presents new challenges. I paint from life, objects from my collection. I enjoy creating compositions that can isolate an object and finding the inherent beauty within that object. Hopefully there is dialogue occurring between the painted objects and dialogue between the image and the viewer. I aim to make the objects ‘special’ to draw the gaze of the viewer; to establish a quiet conversation.

UPCOMING EXHIBITION:

SKY

South West Print Makers
Wed 28th June - Sun 23rd July
Opening Fri 30th June 6 - 8pm

To be opened by Michael Toms from Warrnambool Astronomy Nights

Eleven South West Printmakers Des Bunyon, Delia Crabbe, Sue Ferrari, Ben Fennessy, Britt Gow, Jean Gleeson, Jodie Honan, Marion Manifold, Liza McCosh, Ruby Richardson, Maree Stewart have chosen the inspiration of “Sky” as the theme for this latest exhibition at The F Project Gallery, simply called ‘Sky’. Printmaking techniques include monoprints, etchings, woodcuts and linoprints. As is always the case with a group collaboration, the interpretations and the printmaking techniques are varied and create a wonderful exhibition.
If you missed an exhibition at The F Project, you can still view it virtually.

Previous exhibitions remain live on the F Project site and can still be explored after the exhibition dates.

Virtual Exhibitions can be viewed at any time from any place (on phones, tablets and PCs).

“…worthy flag bearers for the southwest music scene in evocative songs.”- David Dawson, music journalist, Nu Country TV host, Melbourne

A musical performance for voice, piano and flute featuring 13 poems – nine of which were set to music by Karien Sinclair – from Gisela Ullyatt’s first and only published poetry collection. Gisela was an Afrikaans poet and linguist from South Africa who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2020. She was only 43. Just months before her death, she published this debut collection of poems, for which she was one of three national finalists shortlisted for the prestigious Ingrid Jonker prize.

Gisela’s poetry is hauntingly beautiful in its simplicity, often dealing with themes of loss, alienation and the frailty of human existence in a tongue-in-cheek way. The music complements these themes with a variety of styles - from soaring, emotional melodies to a more humorous and upbeat approach.

Die Waarheid oor Duiwe is presented as an intimate theatrical show with English subtitles, featuring the singing voice of Marli van der Bijl (soprano), accompanied on piano by Karien Sinclair with Andrea Li on flute. The moving melodies transcend language barriers and are equally enjoyable for Afrikaans and non-Afrikaans speakers alike, and English audiences may find the odd recognisable tune here and there. Musical numbers are interspersed with the recital of four more of Gisela’s poems, as well as a spoken piece written as a tribute to the late poet.

Presented as part of the 2023 Warrnambool Storytelling Festival
